Haiti Update XIII: What
Would Jesus Do?
A HAITIAN TRAGEDY
The way how the United States government is acting right now you would think that
nothing like this tsunami had ever happened before. What about the thousands of
Haitian people, families, that were swept away during hurricane Jeanne  This happened at
the very doorsteps of the United States.

Just a slight glimpse of homeless Haitians huddled under tarps and scrambling for food
touched my heart and moved me to make a sizeable donation to the Haitian Relief
Fund. Why did the U.S. not respond with any sense of urgency? Was it a matter of race or
just total indifference. Is it because the tragedy was briefly carried on the major
networks. Did the media spotlight not shine long enough to show the plight of the people?
Black Americans, especially Haitian-Americans, have been asking these questions because
of historical facts. The United States has not drawn a pretty picture in the contrast of its
treatment of Haitian refugees versus Asian refugees. Last year in Caribbean Focus
Magazine we ran an article that talked about the U.S. policy on Cuban refugees and how
this country discriminate against the Haitians. The only difference we can see between
these two Caribbean nations is the color of the skin; because surely Cubans are not
suffering the travesties of the Haitians.

IS JUST ME, OR DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THAT THE TIMING OF THE
TSUNAMI GAVE THE U.S. GOVERNMENT A PRIME OPPORTUNITY TO PUT
THEMSELVES IN AT A POLITICAL ADVANTAGE. WITH THE MOSLEM WORLD.
The amount of money that it would take to help to bail Haiti out of its dilemma is a drop
in the bucket compared tothe millions of dollars that it will take to help the tsunami
victims. My heart is breaking for the tsunami victims and every time the death toll
escalates, I ask God to help these poor people. So many children are now mother less but
let me once again say this was not the first tsunami. But this still does not lessen the fact
that millions of people all over the world are suffering from poverty, famine, war and
other natural disasters. They need our help too.
